“Forensics That Lead to a Wrongful Conviction” Group Project

You may work in groups of two or three in order to present information to the class about the innocence project.  You may use whatever means necessary to convey your information in a clear way.  I imagine that most groups will use a power point or poster board, but I encourage you to be creative.

You may use the website http://www.innocenceproject.org/ as a guide to do this project but do not feel like this is the only resource you have to use.  The project should present information on three areas:

            1.  You should research a specific case where the person was exonerated.  You should give details about the crime, explain why this person was convicted and then what led to them being exonerated.

            2.  According to the Innocence Project, there are several reasons as to why innocent people are convicted of crimes.  Help your classmates understand the primary reasons.  What is the primary reason most people are wrongfully convicted?

            3.  The Innocence Project has several ideas on how to fix the system so that innocent people are not convicted.  Give details about these ideas and highlight which one you think is the best way to fix the system.

            4.  This is a summative grade so I need you to tie this into the standards.  Which standard(s) does this help you to learn?

Your project is due March 21, 2012.  Your group must be ready to give a proper oral presentation on this day.
