What's important this Year in Physical Education? THE FITNESSGRAM
In the past, all students that had PE throughout the school year were tested either once sometimes twice in a physical fitness test that included the following: mile run, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, 40 yard dash, broad jump, and vertical jump. It was almost similar to the presidential fitness test. This test measured most all of the physical and health related components (as listed on my web site). Often results were compared to other students of the same age groups which did not motivate to perform to the best of their ability.
Thus comes the Fitnessgram! When the State of Georgia's numbers on obesity amongst our young kids came up, they felt something needed to be done. Georgia is the 2nd highest state when it comes to obesity trailing only Mississippi... by 0.6% only! Those are scary numbers.
