2/4/2013
This week we will continue our study of Unit 7. We are currently learning about Roosevelt's New Deal and will soon be learning about WWII. Don't forget that Wednesday is an early release day.

This week we are beginning our new unit on "The 20th Century." We will be studying the Great Depression and New Deal as well as the events that led to and GA's involvement in WWII. The Unit 7 PowerPoint has been uplaoaded and graphic organizers will be posted as we come to them.

This week we will finish up our unit on the New South. Students will be provided with a study guide toward the end of the week and should be prepared for a test on Friday 1/25/2013.

1/14/2013
This week we will finish the documentary on the Leo Frank Case. We will continue our study of the New South era. Students will be learning about the early civil rights movement in Georgia and the contrasting views of Civil Rights leaders at the time. Don't forget the High School transition meeting in the Cafeteria this Thursday night at 6:30. Finally, Georgia History Club hoodie orders are due this Friday 1/18/2013.

Welcome back and Happy New year! This week we are beginning Unit 6: New South. We will be studying the changes that took place in Georgia after the Civil war and how the policies of Reconstruction affected the post war development of the state. As we come across them in the class, I will upload the graphic organizers and after we finish them I will upload the keys to them. Georgia History Club members... Don't forget that final payments for the field trip are due!

As of Friday 12/14, we have wrapped up our unit on Civil War and Reconstruction in Georgia. A test over Unit 5 is scheduled for Wednesday 12/19/2012. After this unit our next unit will be "New South."

We are working hard on our Civil War unit. We are now in the 2nd part of the unit and should finish and be prepared to test toward the end of the week.

This week we started Unit 5 on the Civil War. We will be working on Graphic Organizer #1 and #2 that you can find under My Resources along with the Unit 5 PowerPoint. This Tuesday the guidance counselors came to speak with the students from Paulding County High School and South Paulding High School. They were discussing with them things they need to be thinking about as upcoming Freshmen.

Study Guides went out Tuesday for the test on Friday. Answers to the unit 12 Graphic Organizer have now been posted under Resources. Be sure to be on the lookout for your child's progress report. These are coming home today (Friday Nov. 16, 2012). Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break.

11/5/2012
Study Guides went out on Friday for the test that we plan to have on Wednesday. Answers to each of the Graphic Organizers was posted to the website last week. Any missing information that needs to be cleared up can be located on these answer keys. Remember, we will have a Georgia History Club meeting on Monday afternoon until 4:45. All 2nd payments for the field trip are also due Monday.

We are continuing our unit on State and local Government this week. I would anticipate that we will finish this unit around the beginning of next week and test probably next Wednesday. The Unit 11 Study Guide will go home on Friday 11/2.

We are beginning a new unit on state and local government this week. As we finish unit 4 we have provided the opportunity to retest and improve poor test grades on the last unit. Beginning Wednesday, we will start Unit 11. All graphic organizers and the unit PowerPoint have been posted on my on the resources page.

This week we will close our unit on Statehood with a study of Indian Removal. Please remember that all handouts are posted on the "Resources" page. I hope that you will be able to attend a conference with your child's team time teacher this week.

We are now in the second section on our Statehood Unit. I have posted all of the Graphic Organizers for the Unit as well as the answers to the one we have already completed. You should also be receiving a conference form from your child at some point this week and this form should be signed and returned to your child's homeroom/team time teacher. The following week (10/15 - 10/19) will be conference week.

This week we are wrapping up the first part of Unit 4 on the Revolution. We will test over this section of the unit on Wednesday and begin talking about Constitutions.

We are on our final week before the fall break. We will finish one unit and begin another this week. After we test on Tuesday over Unit 3, we will begin our unit on Statehood (Unit 4) immediately after.

This week, we will wrap up Unit 3 on the subject of Exploration and Colonization. We will test over Unit 3 this Thursday 9/13/2012. Click on the resources page for a copy of the study guide.

9/4/2012
During this short week we will be taking the Iowa Assessments during homeroom. We will be operating on an abbreviated schedule in our normal classes due to this schedule. In Georgia Studies, we will continue our unit on Exploration and Colonization and we will be specifically learning about the 1st settlements in Georgia and how the state was chartered.

This week we are beginning Unit 3 on the subject of exploration and colonization of Georgia. This week we will particularly focus on the Spanish Missions and the notable explorers from Europe. The next part of the unit will be more about the colonization of early Georgia.

8/20/2012
This week we are wrapping up our unit on Geography and the Prehistoric Peoples of Georgia. As an extension activity, we are going to be doing a clay pot archaeology project that will last a total of about 3 days. Our Unit 2 test is going to be on Tuesday 8/21/2012. Toward the end of this week or the beginning of next week we will begin Unit 3 on the subect of Exploration and Colonization.

8/13/2012
This week we are continuing in our unit on the Geography and Prehistoric People of Georgia. We have finished our study of Geography and are now moving on to the second part of the unit on Prehistoric People. I anticipate that we will finish this portion of the unit on Wednesday and a study guide for the test will be handed out on Thursday 8/16. I have set a tentative test date for Tuesday 8/21. After the test, we will spend the rest of the week working on an Archaeology project in class.

Welcome to a new school year! We will be learning all about Georgia in my class this year. We will be looking at Georgia's Geography, History, Government and Economics. Your student will need 2 composition books (should last the entire year), glue sticks, scissors, and writing utensils. We have just finished our discussion about classroom procedures and 9 connecting themes of social studies. Monday 8/5 we begin unit 2. This unit will focus on the Geography and Prehistoric cultures of Georgia.
