9/11/12---We have completed the Characteristics of Science unit. I am in the process of grading exams that were taken Thursday. Gradebook will be updated as soon as I can get those exams graded. Please check the on-line grade book at least once a week for updates.
We began the new unit covering Matter (S8P1) this week and will continue with this standard for the next 3 or 4 weeks. Please review lessons daily and bring any questions you may have to class. Don't wait until "test time" to discuss items you may be struggling with.
8/30/12
We are continuing our study of scientific inquiry and identifying the variables in an experiment. We will complete the "Penny" lab tomorrow. Students should be working on the study guide at home. The unit exam is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 6th. It will cover Characteristics of Science, specifically lab safety, measurement, scientific inquiry, and variables in an experiment. The study guide is "due" the day of the exam. We will review for the exam Wednesday, Sept. 5th.

8/24/12---I have set up the online text book. See the "Resources" section of this page for the web site, login, and password.
Tutoring is offered every Tuesday after school until 4:30. Students must be picked up by 4:30.
We completed ITBS testing yesterday, Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012. In class, we have completed the measurement lab and have begun working on a scientific inquiry flipbook that will be used to guide the next lab.
We will begin the "Zipline" lab either today or Monday--depending on how quickly students complete the flipbook.

Update:
Several students have not turned in the Lab Safety Rules book. Grades have been entered for this project. Final due date for this book is Monday, August 20th.
Also, some students still need to turn in the lab safety contract with student and parent signatures. Students may not participate in labs until the contract is on file. Please remind students to turn these items in as soon as possible.
We are now working on measurement during class.
Lab Safety Test is scheduled for Tuesday, August 14th.

Welcome to 8th Grade Physical Science. I look forward to working with you throughout the coming school year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have this year. Students will be bringing home a syllabus for science. A science supply list will be included in the syllabus and can be found at the bottom of this page. Along with the syllabus, students will bring home the lab safety contract to go over with parents. Please sign, both parent and student, date, and return to me as soon as possible.
