Drama Club Parents and Students,

Welcome to a new school year at SPMS.  Welcome also to our new after-school “Drama Team.”   I say team because our club will truly work as a team to prepare a full-length junior musical that we will perform in the Spring.  Each and every meeting will be a carefully planned practice and will require consistency in attendance in order to meet our goals.

Shortly, we will begin auditions for parts in Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr.  Parents please look over meeting/rehearsal dates for the entire year and make sure that your students are available to attend all after school rehearsals with a maximum of 5 excused absences.  As you can see, participation in this club will be for committed students (and parents) only.  It is not for occasional drop-ins.  Please make sure that your child is indeed committed to finishing what he or she starts – especially before accepting any roles in the play.

Your child’s behavior will be of extreme importance throughout this year.  Any student who cannot self-motivate and use self-control will be removed from participation in the club.

Fundraising (a necessary yuk!) is an important part of being in Drama Club.  Our play/musical package will cost approximately $550.00.  Props generally run anywhere from $300-$400 dollars as well.  I thought I would offer 2 options for fundraising.  First, we could share the upcoming fundraiser with Chorus.  We would split the profits between Chorus and Drama.  The fundraiser will be selling Cake Rolls in September and October.  Many times parents express a desire to simply make a one-time donation rather than participate in a sale.  If so, a $25.00 donation from each student would probably be enough to at least purchase our showkit.  As soon as the showkit is purchased, we could move ahead with the play.  Please give me your preferences in feedback on the second page  of this form.

I’m looking forward to working with your student to produce some excellent acting and performance skills.  I hope that you will encourage your child to give it “100%” and grow in this positive means of self-expression.

Thanks, and have a great year!!
