January 5, 2012 -9th Grade Registration

Austin Middle School will be offering a high school registration makeup session on Monday evening, January 9th. Sessions will be held on the hour from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. It is imperative that all 8th graders attend one of these important sessions with a parent to choose classes for high school. We also have parent permission and notification forms which must be signed. These sessions should last no longer than 1 hour.

Second, the PCSD is offering a Medical, Research and Technology Magnet program for gifted and talented students beginning next year. There will only be 50 Ninth graders county-wide accepted into this world class program at Paulding County High School. The magnet program offers opportunities for students to work on research projects with scientists from institutions such as Wellstar Healthcare, Emory University, and The Georgia Aquarium. Students may also earn some college credit. If your student excels academically in advanced content classes, you will not want to miss an important informational meeting on Monday night at PCHS. The meeting begins at 7:00.

To summarize, we need all parents of 8th graders who have not registered for high school to meet with us here at AMS on Monday, January 9th. Those parents who would like to know more about the Medical magnet program for their rising 9th grader should plan to attend the informational meeting at PCHS at 7:00 on Monday.

Due to a possibility of severe weather at the Georgia Nature Center tomorrow (including the minimal risk of a tornado watch), I have decided to postpone the 6th Grade Field Trip. We are working with the center to tentatively reschedule for Monday, December 12.
