The following assessments will be administered to Paulding County Middle School students during the course of their time in 6th-8th grades:


Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT)

Grades Involved: 6th, 7th, and 8th grades

Dates: April 17-19, 22-23, 2013 

The CRCT is designed to measure how well students acquire the skills and knowledge described in the state's curriculum. The assessments yield information on academic achievement at the student, class, school, system, and state levels. This information is used to diagnose individual student strengths and weaknesses as related to the instruction of the state's curriculum, and to gauge the quality of education throughout Georgia. Revisions have been made to the CRCT Study Guides as a result of the transition to the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) in the content areas of Reading, English Language Arts, and Mathematics.

8th Grade Writing Assessment 


Grades Involved:
 8th grade

Dates: January 23, 2013

The 8th Grade Writing Assessment consists of an evaluation of the student’s response to an assigned prompt. The prompt type may be narrative, persuasive, or expository. Students decide the type of writing that best suits their knowledge of and interest in the writing topic. Many different types of topic development, support, and organizational strategies are acceptable. The type of writing chosen by the student determines what tone is appropriate for the paper.

Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS)

Grades Involved: 8th grade

Dates: August 27-30, 2012

Each year, Georgia's elementary and middle schools administer a nationally norm-referenced test to students in grades three, five, and eight. The purpose of the ITBS, the norm-referenced test used by the state, is to obtain information about how the performance of Georgia's students compare with that of students in a national sample, an external reference group. The results of the ITBS are used for evaluation, decision-making, and instructional improvement. The ITBS assesses vocabulary, reading, language arts skills, mathematics, science, social studies, use of reference materials, and map skills.



Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)

Grades Involved: 6th grade

Dates: August 27-29, 2012

The Cognitive Abilities Test is an integrated series of tests that provides information on the level of development of general and specific cognitive skills of students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. These abilities have substantial correlations with learning and problem solving both in and out of school. The primary purpose of CogAT is to provide a description of the student's own cognitive resources for learning that teachers and other educators can use to help the student achieve instructional objectives.
